The Top 5 Fast Food Fries
Today I will tackle the impossible task of providing a proper ranking for this polarizing issue. It is safe to say that a fast food establishment can be properly judged on the delivery of its french fries. The fry is a staple in the fast food industry, the preparation fits the bill of a traditional fast food dish. Take a seemingly healthy item, a raw potato, stick it in a deep fryer add some butter and salt and there you go. A delicious side to any meal this ranking will put to end the constant debate over who prepares the best fry. Before this list can continue, a quick differentiation needs to be made, between a grab and go, and fast food place. An example of a grab-and-go place is something like Shake Shack, a place where you certainly don’t need to sit down, but it takes a little longer than fast food. To clarify where a restaurant sits on that scale I picture, if I have ever seen a drive-thru attached to the establishment. With the rules set in stone, the ranking will now begin:
5. Wingstop
Although not their forte, Wingstop is entirely capable of making a great fry. What Wingstop offers which the others do not is the variety of their fry. You can add any seasoning to the side, I tend to head to the lemon pepper seasoning, however, am not opposed to other choices. They offer their intense Voodoo fries with ranch buffalo topping their freshly made potatoes. Overall, you should never shy away from a Wingstop fry.
4. Wendy’s
The Wendy’s fry is the definition of getting the job done, while not excelling in any particular category, the saltiness, texture, and taste come together to make a solid fry that I would indulge in 7 out of 7 days of the week.
3. Five Guys
Volume. That is the word that shoots the front of the cortex when thinking about Five Guys fries. No matter the size you order, you are getting more than you will be able to eat before you are full. They are soft fries and oily which I enjoy. After eating these fries the first thing you are going to want to do is dig your hand back in the bag for another smooth bite.
2. Chick-Fil-A
The chicken powerhouse slides in nicely at the two spots. There are two things that must be applied to these fries to make them the 2nd best in the business. The first is that you combine them with some of the sauces that CFA offers. It should be commonplace by now that these sauces are what truly sets CFA apart from the rest of the pack. Dipping some crispy waffle fries into a golden-brown CFA sauce is one of the most enjoyable experiences in my recent memory. The second aspect of this fry to capitalize on is they must be eaten at the store or right after receiving the food. My only criticism is that CFA doesn’t travel well and could become stale 20-30 minutes after receiving the food.
1. McDonald’s
Who else but the golden arches to top this list? The crispiness and saltiness are the Spongebob and Patrick of the fry game and they cannot be stopped. The clear choice to me, these fries are compelling to the taste buds, and give immense reward to the lucky customer consuming an order of these. These fries both travel well and go great with sauce, or alone. This wouldn’t be a proper list if I didn’t include this fry as my number 1. Thank you to the fine folks at McDonald’s for this incredible creation.
