Ode to Lightning

Ode to Lightning

Furious and formidable,
flickering bodies
dancing alone
in the summer rain.

As if
You
are the scepter
of the divine!

Your blazing beams
declare your arrival
to this mundane world,
cracking the sky into pieces.

Your power,
striking a harmonious night,
illuminating
an otherwise somber sky.

We merely espy glimpses
of Your sacred face,
Your majesty,
transient yet frightening.

So much
so that
I faithfully
yearn

to strip off
Your electric veil,
to immerse in
Your grasp of storm,

to catch
Your dazzling
brightness—
to thank you

for dislodging
my fears of night,
for lighting up
the shadowed way ahead.
