The Blair Academy Buccaneers – or Bucs as they are called by the school – represents more than just a football team at Blair. For many students who call themselves a “true Buc” , it represents a badge of honor. As new faces join Blair and make this wonderful campus their home, they hear this term “Bucs” more and more. Blair Football has a long history, going all the way back to 1884. Blair competes is what is known as the MAPL (Mid – Atlantic Prep League) alongside Hun, Hill, Lawrenceville, Pennington, Peddie, and Mercersburg. As seniors graduate and freshmen are introduced to the program. The Blair Football program has been astoundingly strong. Under Coach Bowman, Blair has seen success in the MAPL. A defensive coordinator at Pleasant Valley High School for 11 out of the 12 years there, Coach Bowman has not only helped develop the program, but also individual players. Since joining the Blair squad, Coach Bowman has had 4 players selected into the NFL draft.
Although Blair’s season has not gone as expected with only 4 wins this season. These final moments for the players, especially the seniors, are precious. Strengthening the bond within the team, not just as players, but as a family. Always ready to support one another through their challenges. Blair football revolves around on word/motto: Ohana. That Coach Saylor implemented in his time at Blair. Just like in Lilo & Stitch. Ohana means family, and as the football players go through the school. They know that they have a family that is there for them when they are in need.
Blair’s longstanding rivalry, Peddie. Represents more than just a game. It represents what it means to be a Blair Academy Buccaneer. the rivalry is deeply rooted in tradition as with each contest the pride and spirit of Blair Academy, the school that students call their home. As well as it being a tradition and as has and will stay Blair for a while. Overall, Peddie was a blast with lots of food and loads of fun, the day did not go as planned. However Blair football won, with the love and support for Blair football. They were able to win the game. The outcome of Peddie day did not turn out as thought. However Blair football supporters, students will stand by Blair as they graduate. Win or lose, the spirit of Ohana is what defines the Blair Buccaneers, a family that stands united, and carries one another on and off the field. Because at Blair, just like in football, Ohana means family.
