Promposals

With prom in the near future, it’s finally the season for promposals. Whether you’re going with your significant other or just a friend, promposals can be uncomfortable and hilarious all at the same time. They range from a text between two people, to an elaborately planned display.

I wanted to find out how students’ promposals went at Blair Academy, and what their ideal promposals would look like:

Patrick Reardon ’19:

“I asked Katie [Izard ’20] to Prom. It wasn’t a big deal to me. I just did it to embarrass her with a big sign outside of Armstrong.”

Lucy Zhang ’20:

“Yes, I did get asked by Kerem, and the actual ask itself was not that important to me, but it was sweet to see the effort that [he] put into making it.”

In what way did they ask you?

“I was asked with a poster with an inside joke on it. The joke is about flowers and he bought me flowers too.”

How do you think it went and is there anything you would have changed?

How did he ask you?

“He waited in the Kathryn common room for me and surprised me after I showered. He actually made me a poster that was crew themed, and he cut…the paper to look like oars.”

Would you change anything?

“Well, it was raining and his poster got all wet. I was also in the shower while he was waiting for me so that was a little weird.”

What does your perfect promposal look like?

“Someone giving me flowers, but not like a big thing where it’s super public.”

If you could bring a celebrity to prom who would it be?

“I would definitely bring Timothée Chalamet.”

Even if you’re going alone, that’s ok because prom is genuinely just a night to have fun with your friends.
