Featured Photographs: Glitter, Glitter Everywhere

Messy is one word I could use to describe this shoot. The amount of glitter that still pops up, whether under my phone case, in my hair, or even in my clothes, is astonishing. Although it was chaotic, Lydia and I had a lot of fun taking these photos.

The inspiration photo by Derrick Freske

We got the inspiration for the shoot from Los Angeles photographer Derrick Freske. The photo that influenced us was of a girl with small silver stars falling past her face.

We both follow the photographer on Instagram, and when I saw Lydia “liked” it, I reached out and asked if she wanted to try something similar together for our studio shoot project.

Thirty dollars worth of glitter later, we went to the CIC’s photo studio. Originally we were planning to do exactly what we saw on Instagram, but as we experimented with different methods and shots, we soon developed our own ideas. It was amazing to see it all come together and produce such ethereal shots.

The worst part of the shoot was obviously the clean up. We made such a mess in the studio, and spent so long trying to clean it up. We eventually had to get a vacuum, which still didn’t get all the glitter out of the carpet. It’s safe to say the photo studio will always have some of that glitter on its floor.

This was definitely one of my favorite shoots. Watching it come together into something that we’re both proud of was unbelievably gratifying.
