Featured Artist: Linda Tong ’19

This painting by Linda Tong ’19 brings to light the stress and obsession around getting into college. Tong wants to remind the viewers of her piece that college is another step in our education and not a measure of self-worth and future success. Her painting features several faceless figures, each one showing nothing but their lips, and they can only be distinguished by their differing college gear. “My message to the viewers of this painting,” Tong explained, “is that this is what we are reducing students to when we judge them by their college choice, which is such a minute detail compared to their character, talents, and other accomplishments.”
