Blair girls and boys crew traveled early on Saturday April 18, 2015 to Princeton for the Mercer Lake Sprints. This was a huge event, ranging anywhere from three to seven teams in each race. The racing for Blair commenced at 8:40 a.m and ended a little after 3:00 p.m. The races were 1500 meters for novice events and 2000 meters for the varsity. For some of the novice rowers this was their first race in a new sport, and when asked they said that it was “so much fun.” Despite some nerves in the beginning, the teams, varsity and novice, finished with outstanding results. As Ms. Schomers said, “being nervous only means that you care about what you are doing.” Three varsity boats moved on to the finals on Sunday April 19, where they will compete in one more race each. In addition to many awesome races, Jim and Val Reynolds (parents of Brooke ’15), threw an amazing tailgate for all of the athletes, coaches, and their families. Special thanks to the parents who helped out at the tailgate, and the coaches Ms. Guilmet, Mr. Doerr, Mr. Dougherty, Ms. Schomers, and Mr Newell. Good luck to all of the athletes competing in the finals, and congratulations to all who raced today!
