Artist Profile: Christine Jeong ’23

Elephant

Evelyn Sharma: What mediums of art do you most enjoy working with?
Christine Jeong: I really enjoyed using charcoal and markers to draw. I have found that it [takes] a lot of time since I [have] to focus on details. I am currently not working on 2D arts, but [those] were definitely the tools I loved to use.

E.S: When did you start making art, and why?
C.J: I was always interested in drawing and making art pieces since I was young, but I never thought I wanted to bring it to my career. I realized my passion for art when I was in middle school, and I am still passionate about it. Though I first liked [the] 2D art[forms] of drawing and painting, I one day started to get interested in architecture after talking with an architect for [a] school project. I started to make designs for houses since then. I am currently very interested in 3D design after starting my graphic design class. I love how I could make my own piece using different kinds of tools without any limits. I wish to study communication and graphic design in the future continuing my passion for art.

Detachment from the Business

E.S: What are some of your favorite pieces that you’ve made so far?
C.J: I personally enjoy doing a lot of different artworks, but I love making my own architecture piece and designing using adobe illustrator as well as photoshop. My favorite pieces are “Elephant,” “Spike,” and “Wooden House.”

Spike

E.S: What art classes are you taking at Blair?
C.J: I am currently taking Mr. Hanson’s Graphic Design class. Our class has just finished a project of creating a minimalist poster using Adobe Illustrator which I really enjoyed doing.
Last fall I took Mr. Garrant’s intro to Programming class. I web scraped information from a website to show the covid cases of the United States since last February for my final project.

Up

E.S: Where do you find inspiration for your art?
C.J: I enjoy going on to the website Pinterest by my phone or laptop everyday because I simply like to look and find pictures that I am interested in. As I look or pin the images that I like, it shows more images related to my interest in my feed which is why I enjoy going into the website. I often look at pictures of web designs, ui-ux designs, or architecture inspiration images. I also like to look at other people’s amazing artworks from Pinterest.

My Childhood

E.S: What do you enjoy the most about making art?
C.J: Although it takes a long time to finish a certain piece, I like the process of doing that and each time when I see the difference in my artwork as I made progress, I feel proud and happy. I also like the beginning process of thinking what art pieces to make or get inspiration from because I feel excited.

Wooden House

E.S: Do you have a certain style of art that you enjoy or are interested in?
C.J: I started to get interested in graphic design recently. I really want to continue studying graphic design in the future in college and as a job. Focusing on the study of ui-ux design, designing websites, or visual designs of layouts and scenarios are some things that I have interest in potentially.

House of Goddess

E.S: Are you planning to continue taking art classes at Blair in the future?
C.J: YES. I would love to take other art classes such as architecture, photography, AP programming, or AP graphic design.
