This Friday, Blair’s GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) club will host the third annual Day of Silence. Students participating will be engaged in a national movement in which participants are silent for one academic day. By not speaking, students demonstrate “the silencing effect of bullying and harassment on LGBTQ students and those perceived to be LGBTQ”.
For LGBTQIA+ people and allies of the mission, especially those in school, this day aims to provide a sense of comfort for their LGBTQIA+ peers, and act as an indicator of acceptance. By engaging in the Day of Silence, students are able to better understand the difficulties and challenges many face in anti-gay environments.
