Saturday evening, a fierce Lawrenceville team took on our lady Buccaneers in the final of the New Jersey Prep A state tournament. Having defeated the Big Red 70-45 earlier in the year, the Bucs expected a win, but took no shortcuts in preparing for their season finale. Lawrenceville opened the game on an 8-2 run and led 11-10 after the first quarter, but a big game from Felicia Aiyeotan ‘16 pushed her squad to a 64-44 victory and a sixth straight state championship for head coach Quint Clarke.
Emotions ran high after the game, as fellow seniors Ke’er Sun and Carly Leifken embraced and shared a tear, hoisting their fourth straight trophy above their heads. Despite the loss of these seniors, Blair retains key players such as Andra Espinoza-Hunter ‘17 and Honesty Scott-Grayson ‘18. The chemistry between these two and the recruiting by Coach Clarke bodes well for the team, as they look for a seventh consecutive title next winter.
